How To Run MRP - Buy to Find Shortages

1. Navigate to Purchasing >> MRP >> MRP - Buy.

2. You will see that the MRP page lets you know the last time MRP was run.

3. You will also see that this page shows you how up-to-date your data was at the time of your MRP refresh.

4. A forecast is a potential order. Clicking the checkbox allows you to see supply needs and need dates as if it were an order.

5. Running MRP in Standard mode is recommended because it considers purchasing needs and the dates the ordered parts will be received.

6. Click Refresh to run MRP Refresh.

7. Once the MRP report pulls up, you can filter this report by multiple categories.

8. You can see important data per part, including quantity on order, quantity on hand, available quantity, and the suggested quantity to buy.

Why MRP Recommends a Buy

9. A part can appear on the MRP - Buy report for two primary reasons:

  • Re-Order Point (ROP): The part's projected quantity on hand is approaching the Re-Order Point configured for that part.
  • Supply/Demand: Existing and projected demand causes the part's projected quantity on hand to fall below zero based on the supply currently available or expected.
  • 10. The suggested Need To Buy quantity is Cetec ERP's calculated purchasing recommendation based on the supply and demand information available when MRP was refreshed.11. Because MRP is a planning snapshot, the recommendation should be treated as a starting point for the purchasing decision rather than automatically as the final quantity to purchase. Inventory, orders, purchase orders, or other demand may have changed since the most recent MRP refresh.

    Validate the Shortage With the Waterfall

    12. To view the most detailed information on the part before making a purchasing decision, leverage the part waterfall.13. To navigate there, click on the part number hyperlink >> Activity+ >> Waterfall.14. The left-hand portion of the screen represents part demand, and the right-hand portion represents supply data.15. The part waterfall is divided by warehouse location, allowing for even more granular data to be utilized.16. When reviewing a shortage, remember that the standard waterfalland allocation waterfall provide different views of the same supply and demand picture. The standard waterfall reflects the latest supply and demand information, while the allocation waterfall reflects information from the most recent allocation refresh. MRP uses the allocation snapshot by default when it is refreshed.17. Before creating a purchase order, use the waterfall to confirm that the shortage and suggested purchase quantity are still justified by the latest supply and demand information.
